This section represents some of my most recent work. It is an offshoot from the Shunga Series and began after I started painting in oil in the year 2000 at the suggestion of a friend and gallery owner. These are my most recent paintings, based on turn of the century photography, Japanese erotica, ghost stories and kabuki. I am trying to develop the multi-layered effects first explored in Shunga Number 8 and expand on the visual dynamics of trompe l'oeil. The series is called the "Floating World" in reference to the Buddhist term "ukiyo" meaning the floating, transitory or temporal world.
